Vehicle Tracking Advanced Features

Your company will benefit in several ways when you use vehicle tracking systems. Now you have the option of adding even more to your whole system. Technology advances with alacrity and with it comes changes you will want to take advantage of. Whether you are looking for lower operational costs or improved performance from drivers, you can find both all in one system.

Lately vehicle tracking has offered some new options like Geo Fencing and Driver ID. Below you will find explanations of the new features and how they can advance your tracking abilities.

Geo Fencing

Geo Fencing can also be referred to as ring fence or land marking. All three phrases will mean the same thing. The tracking system allows you to put geo road blocks up for tracking a vehicle. In other words you can enter in the destination address and location on the map. This is typical of all systems. The driver will be able to see it on their end and drive to it. The longitude and latitude information regarding the vehicle location is shared. With geo fencing you are adding landmarks or points of interest. The points of interest can then be used to create a fence around the working area. If your work vehicle leaves the area by going outside the points of interest an alert is sent to you via email or other electronic communications. Using this you will know if the car is stolen, if the employee is using work time for personal errands, and otherwise misusing the vehicle. Typically home base, an employee’s address, the consumer, and one other choice are used to create the fence.

Driver ID

Wouldn’t it be nice to know who is driving your vehicle? Some vehicle tracking systems will offer you this nicety. Instead of handing out keys to vehicles for your fleet drivers and hoping they keep to the same driver you can ensure they do. With driver ID the car cannot start until the driver enters an electronic key which tells the depot who is behind the wheel. Even better you will know if an unknown driver is behind the wheel because alerts will be sent to you. This helps with recovery of stolen vehicles. You are able to get the alert and call the police earlier thus you have a better chance of getting the automobile back.

Temperature Monitoring

For fleets that have refrigerator trucks it can be imperative to monitor temperature from the driver’s point of view. A shipment that is not at the right temperature can be sent away by the receiving company. If you truly want to make things easy on the driver and yourself you will add the temperature monitoring feature to your package. You never have to worry about a shipment being rejected due to temperature issues.
These are a few of the key features you might like to add to your tracking system. They certainly help you improve your operational costs and driver performance because you have more control.
